behold the flavor grenade

I tried a new fruit back around Labor Day, when we traveled to California. I’m sure you already know about these. We went to the farmer’s market and I purchased a pluot — the variety is actually called “Flavor Grenade,” and yes, that about sums it up. It’s a hybrid betwen a plum and an apricot, and SO much better than either of’s sweet, tart, juicy—not just plum and apricot, but also apple, peach, and pineapple, all rolled into one. Later, I did see some back on my home turf here in Massachusetts. They were, of course, not nearly as good…but still good enough that they helped me remember the explosion of deliciousness I experienced on that first bite at the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market. I thought my list of favorite foods was pretty well solidified by this point, so how excellent to discover a new one.
